Letter Writing Prompts

Sometimes the hardest part of writing a letter is knowing where to begin.

These prompts are offered as gentle starting points—nothing more. You don’t need to answer every question, and you don’t need to write quickly or well. Let the words come as they will, and stop when they’re finished.

Choose one prompt or many. Write for five minutes or an hour. Skip what doesn’t fit. These are here to support your writing, not to direct it.

To Begin a Letter

  • What has been on your mind lately, even if you haven’t said it aloud?
  • Describe a small moment from your day that you’d like to remember.
  • What season does your life feel like right now?

To Deepen a Conversation

  • What have you been learning about yourself lately?
  • What feels unfinished, and why?
  • What do you wish someone understood about this season of your life?

To Close Gently

  • What are you grateful for today, even if it feels ordinary?
  • What do you hope the person reading this feels after your letter?
  • What would you like to say if you weren’t trying to say it perfectly?
